Somäzing
More power, Less cost
In a densely populated city like Hong Kong, most of the population lives and works in flats in 30 to 50-story skyscrapers, but not houses because of a shortage of land. Installing solar panels on rooftops is costly, difficult to maintain, and has limited power as the rooftop is often full of air-conditioners and serves as fire refuge areas, thus the motives for using solar energy are low. As a result, there is a demand for a new solution to promote renewable energy. Somäzing is an innovative office or household blind that takes advantage of materials' UV resistance, flexibility, and lightness after a series of experiments on physical properties, logistics, and storage. It is a product designed for modern cities, where most office towers are equipped with large-sized glass windows. It makes it perfect for installing a blind with solar panels on it. The inspiration for the form comes from the playful idea of puzzles and Portuguese tiles, which allow users to customize size according to their window. This method also eases the logistics and manufacturers as the blind can be disassembled into various single units. All the faulty bar units can be replaced and maintained conveniently.

Somäzing is suitable in high rises and supplies power for office lighting, and mobile devices in an environmentally friendly way.,

The opposite way of the blinds can be customized by the users as commercial advertisements when not in use. The inspirations are taken from the iconic, artistic Portuguese-style tiles.

The dimensions can be customized as they are designed precisely with hinges, which allows customers to replace faulty blinds.
